Safe Harbor - Protecting Sexually Exploited Minors
Maine does not have a statute that grants immunity to minor victims or diverts them from the juvenile justice system. The appropriate response to this issue continues to challenge Maine, as the state structure does not currently have the means by which youth would be diverted. Numerous organizations including local and statewide providers, state child protective workers, and law enforcement officers are collaborating to ensure that these young victims are delivered into the hands of service providers rather than the criminal justice system.
